U-20 World Cup Canada-meaning? |
1st-I'm from Toronto 2nd-Why is it called Under 20 World Cup? 3rd-what is it for? 4th-is Canada going to win it because of home territory? 5th-since I'm Filipino-any players playing on any of this u-20 teams? if thats possible it is called the under 20 world cup because all players that play are under 20 years old it's like the hockey playoffs (except its a BIG tournament for SOCCER) No just because it's in canada does not mean they will win. it is a tournament. may the best team win. not sure if there are filipinos (very unlikely) because the Philippines is not represented by a team (they did not qualify) (lol im filipino too) Source(s): Me (i love soccer!) the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup will be staged in CANADA from 30 June to 22 July 2007. the tournament is similar to the men's FIFA World Cup but it is open to players under 20 years old. CANADA have qualified to the tournament as the host nation. the PHILIPPINES are not featured in this tournament as they did not take part in the qualification for the 2006 AFC Youth Championship which serves as the qualification for the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. the u-20 world cup is a soccer competition between NATIONAL TEAMS, being held in CAnada. its called the under 20 world cup b/c all the teams consist of players under 20 and its like the world cup but with players under 20. I don't think Canada will win b/c of home territory b/c tat doesn't determine if they're gonna win the games. And there wont b any filipino players b/c the Philippines didnt qualify 4 the competition. Hope I helped 鈾? The second and third questions can be answered together. The event is put on by FIFA (the group that governs soccer). It is the world championship (hence the world cup part) for national teams composed of male players under the age of 20 (hence the Under 20 part). As to the fourth question, Canada qualified automatically as one of the hosts, but it is not considered to be one of the favorites. A successful tournament for Canada would be to make it from the first round (a group phase in which each team plays the other members of its group with the tournament consisting of 6 groups of 4 teams) to the second round (a knockout round of 16 teams -- the top 2 from each group and the 4 best 3rd place teams). The favorites to win (based on past performances) are probably Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, and Nigeria. As to the fifth question, I do not know if any players of Filipinio descent are on any of the teams. The Phillipines did not qualify as one of the teams from Asia. The Asian teams are Japan (playing in Group F), Jordan (playing in Group B), North Korea (playing in Group E), and South Korea (playing in Group D). Other teams in the teams in the tournament are: from Africa -- Congo (playing in Group A), Gambia (playing in Group C), Nigeria (playing in Group F), and Zambia (playing in Group B); from Europe -- Austria (playing in Group A), Czech Republic (playing in Group E), Poland (playing in Group D), Portugal (playing in Group C), Scotland (playing in Group F), and Spain (playing in Group B); from North America -- Canada (playing in Group A), Costa Rica (playing in Group F), Mexico (playing in Group C), Panama (playing in Group E), and the U.S. (playing in Group D); from Oceania -- New Zealand (playing in Group C); and from South America -- Argentina (playing in Group E), Brazil (playing in Group D), Chile (playing in Group A), and Uruguay (playing in Group B). Under 20 because it's players that are 20 or under (usually under 20) years old. It is for SOCCER No Canada doesn't automatically win The Philippinnes aren't in the U20.. |
