Now that poland won against brazil, will they beat the USA to go on to the next round? |
Most people thought that poland would finish last in this group but with their win over brazil i think that they are a team that may win a medal! we'll see Most people have no idea about U-20 players or their abilities. The predictions I saw before the matches were based on stereotyped views of these countries and their soccer abilities. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, the U-20s were never shown on TV until now, and not much info is ever given on them. Who really knows anything in the US or Western countries about teams other than what's in the media eye? Secondly, there is a lot of blind arrogance based on racial stereotypes. Obviously, everyone imagines Brazil is amazing due to its historical record and good adult team. But who exactly did Brazil have to beat to get into the tournament? Weak south american teams. And who really knows anything about the abilities of Polish or South Korean players? Poland is a strong young team, make no mistake about it. They showed their abilities against Brazil. Not only did they outscore them, they outdefended them with one man red carded out for an entire half! That shows mental toughness as well. The Brazilians. by contrast, panicked and missed the net on several occasions. I knew Poland had a good team because I am of Polish descent and read about their qualifying games a year before this tournament from Polish newspapers. Thirdly, most people have the idea that some teams are weak due to their adult counterpart's lousy World Cup 2002-2006 performances. These are totally different players and coaches despite their identical uniforms! The U-20 teams of each nation are IN NO WAY comparable to their adult counterparts! Take South Korea, for example. I just returned from that country a month ago where I was teaching. It so happens I saw several of its team's U-20 qualifying matches and friendlies. One friendly was against Poland, the same team they will face in a few days. The result was a hard fought tie of 0-0. Their qualifying matches were against low quality teams from arabic countries and poor east asia. Poland, in comparison, qualified and entered the tournament against much stiffer East European competitors, among them Lithuania and Ukraine. People believe that the Korean teams is good based on the 2002 WC performance, which was on their home ground and had different players. The next world cup in 2006, they failed against mediocre teams. South Korea was never a top team, and won't be this time around, for sure. Here are my predictions, based on FACTS, not wishful thinking or arrogant, stereotypical views. Brazil and Poland will get out of the group. South Korea and USA will not advance, but it will be a close group all around. no USA has come on strong this year and can take on polland no, USA is the best at whatever they do. no way i thought poland was so much better then people were expecting you know what the problem is? people think just because they beat brasil that they will automatically advance. at the u20 stage it is hard to predict this as different teams have different strengths & weaknesses my prediction for that group from early on was that brasil & korea would make it out and korea & poland would possibly have to fight over the 2nd spot. im sticking by what i said. |
