What's the difference between a slider, a sinker and a curve ball? |
What's the difference between a slider, a sinker and a curve ball? the difference between a curve, slider, and sinker is that a sinker is like the ball is fat according to the hitter and then at the last second it drops off the table or the bottom falls out of it...a slider brakes to one side, it comes in flat like a fast ball then its like it tails to one side depending on if a righty or lefty is pitching...and a curve ball is a compenation of both the slider and sinker, the comes in going at the batter and then brakes down and to the side, or if you think like a clock: sinker brakes from 12 to 6. slider brakes for a righty 2 to 8. a lefty from 10 to 4 curve brakes for a righty 1 to 7. a lefty from 11 to 5 Source(s): i know from experience...i am a right hand pitcher and have for the past six years and i can throw all of these pitches a slider lets say starts out to the right and starts sliding over into the stike zone a sinker is already at the strike zone but drops ans makes the batter swing and a curve ball is throws goes to the left (or right) and comes back. They have different speeds, movement, and they each produce a different kind of hit. Such as a sinker tends to cause ground ball outs. A slider will move from Left to Right across the plate when thrown by a Lefty, and R to L by a Righty. Best example of a Slider is Randy Johnson. youtube it. A sinker is just a fastball, but just before the ball gets to home plate, the bottom falls out of it and it drops to the ground very sharply. One of the better sinkerballers is Chen Mien Wang. also, youtube it A curve ball is a slower pitch, and when thrown well, will start as high, and sometimes higher, than a batters head, and then break downward to thier knees or lower. Good examples of amazing curve balls are Andy Pettitte and Barry Zito. Unlike the other two pitches, many times a batter will step back or relax when they see where the ball is released because they think its well out of the strike zone, only to be caught looking as the ball drops into the zone for a called strike. A good curve can really make even the best hitter look silly. Take the final pitch of the 06 NLCS game. Cardinals vs. Mets. Adam Wainwright threw a nasty curve and caught Carlos Beltran (one of the better hitters in the NL) looking. Didnt even swing. ^^^ that was the most confusing explanation that I have ever read. Thanks for confusing me even more. |
