Will the WBA/WBO unification bout result in a "legitimate" world champion?

. There hasn't been a recognized world heavyweight champion since the retirement of Lennox Lewis in January 2004, but titleholder Sultan Ibragimov and Ruslan Chagaev hope to change that.

Heavyweight Champions
鈥?WBA: Ruslan Chagaev
鈥?WBC: Oleg Maskaev
鈥?IBF: Wladimir Klitschko
鈥?WBO: Sultan Ibragimov

They will meet on a date to be determined in October in Moscow, Leon Margules of Ibragimov promoter Seminole Warriors Boxing told ESPN.com on Tuesday. He was about to board a flight for Moscow, where the fight will be formally announced Thursday at a news conference at the President Hotel.

"It's a done deal," Margules said. "We're doing a unification fight, which is what everyone is crying for. The fighters wanted to fight each other and we made a deal, and when it's over, there will be one less heavyweight champion."

It will be the division's first unification fight since Lewis became the undisputed champion by defeating Evander Holyfield in their November 1999 rematch.

Definitely a step in the right direction. Hats off to the Russians lol I see Chagaev winning the fight and I believe he is a deserving champion. He fought his heart out against Valuev and won after taking several hard shots. The WBC title I don't see being unifyed for a while as so many people have been promised title shots already. Peter verse Oleg then Vitali verse the winner and now I hear that Oliver McCall is in the mix to fight the winner there. boing is getting crazier but I love it. McCall is actually a championship contender again and ranked ahead of Hollyfield at 17 in boxrec's figures. Boxing is the only sport where u dont only get second chances but you get 6-7 chances. Then when you can't box no more MMA will take you...Ray Mercer lost to Kimbo in his debut. Butterbean has been doing fairly well though. Who knows who will jump in the cage next. Morrison should be banned by the way. Ok enough rambling I think I forgot the question lol
No and Yes, it will be a more legitimate champion, but after Klitschko beats Brewster he needs to fight Maskaev, and then the winner of that needs to fight the winner of Chagaev-Ibragimov. I believe that Klitschko is the best champion we have right now and im confident he could take any of the other major heavyweight champions.
It won't result in a legitimate world champion but it will be a step towards crowning one.

If the winner of that fight fought Klitschko after (assuming that Klitschko beats Brewster which I think that he will) or Brewster (if he wins), or the Maskaev/Peter winner and there is a unification of 3 of the belts then a pretty strong case can be made for that person as the legitimate Heavyweight champion.
It is a definite step in the right direction. They just need to get the other two "champs" to fight each other and we're one big step closer to an undisputed champion. But this match up won't "legitimize" a world champion at this weight class.
No. I think Klitschko is the linear champion, and all claims to the title must go through him. That bout is a good start though. Good to hear from you Rio! Haven't seen you on here for a while.
kind of i mean yeah it would but still want be as popular you know.
thanks
