HBO 's Best Mexican Fighters? |
HBO has this list of great Mexican Fighters do you agree? 1. Julio Cesar Chavez 2. Ruben Olivares 3. Salvador Sanchez 4. Miguel Canto 5. Carlos Zarate 6. Ricardo Lopez 7. Marco Antonio Barrera 8. Vicente Saldivar 9. Kid Azteca 10. Jose Becerra Hey Devon- good question! Even though his career was not that long, I have Sanchez as #1. No one in the history of the lighter weights could take a punch like Sanchez. I've seen him just get CRACKED by the best shots of Azumah Nelson, Danny Lopez, and the brick-fisted Wilfredo Gomez, and not even bat an eye! All the while barbequeing you with powerful straight right hands and that murderous chopping left hook - it wasn't a matter of 'if', just a matter of 'when'. I'm not sure that kid COULD be hurt! here's my top five in prime: Sanchez Zarate Chavez Olivera Barerra Notes: Chavez gets extra credit for how long he was good, not how good he was at his best. Source(s): Watching them fight. Jose Napoles should be near the top-top 5 definitely..Cuban but he was a Mexican fighter. Lupe Pintor, Pipino Cuevas, Jorge Arce would be more near the bottom. Salvador Sanchezx was my favorite fighter and inspired me to box as a younster in the early 80s but because of how short his career was it wouldnt be fair to put him at #1. Despite how the latter part of his career played out, for the first 89 fights or so there was no one better than Julio Cesar Chavez. He destroyed quality fighters like Roger Mayweather, Ruben Castillo, Mario Martinez, beat Rocky Lockridge, Juan LaPorte, Sammy Fuentes, Edwin Rosario, Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen, and others. From 1980 to 1992 he was close to unbeatable. The others were good but none of them was THAT good. Ricardo Lopez would be my 1A as he never lost a professional contest and reigned throughout the entire decade of the 1990s. Other greats were Carlos Zarate, Daniel Zarragoza, Ruben Olivares, Alfonso Zamora, Jose Bazooka Limon, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Miguel Canto. 100% Mexicano, former boxer and fight aficionado for 27 years. yes i do and i love it. great question and these are some great guys great job by ESPN thanks ~Cherokee74 I believe the best Mexican fighter of all time is Salvador Sanchez. It was so sad to see him die at such a young age. He was one of the greatest boxers of all time......... |
