Joe Louis' parents didn't want him to box. They gave him money for violin (or maybe piano im not sure don't quote me) lessons and he took the money and went down to a boxing gym. As a matter of fact Joe Louis wasn't even his real name. Ray Robinsons parents didn't want him to box either, Ray Robinson isn't his real name either.

All i have to say is if you truley want to box you'll find a way.
I say...Dont listen to them do whatever makes you happy.
That sucks, but they're basically your boss. My parents wouldn't let me play football because my father got injured playing, so instead I joined the Wrestling team. I ended up getting injured my senior year and have not been the same since. I don't really express my pissed offness to them because it is in the passed and It was their decision. I loved wrestling and really learned alot. Not just about the sport but the go get'em state of mind. Today I am in a successful computer business, thanks in part to my mom for getting me to take typing class in HS, so it will all even out. I think if you would express your intentions to box, possible they would let you take a shot at it, but i'm sure one of their arguments will be look at Muhammid Ali.. so good luck
Here's a true story....no sob story of a reply here. I am a trainer. I am also a former professional boxer. I'm not going to tell you that my mom didn't want me fighting, because she is credited for me getting into boxing as a very young man. I work mostly with young pro boxers in the Texas area. I sometimes help a few friends out in the LA and Vegas areas. I often hear of stories/ dilemmas such as yours.....I wonder and sometimes tell really young (15-18yr old) fighters that they should somehow get their parents to a pro fight, to the gym for a sparring session, to golden gloves tournaments, or some organized boxing event. Another idea is having a coach, mentor, or trainer contact your folks.....and before you ask, "no" I can not do it. I am heading to El Paso in the morning for the Holyfield bout. Good Luck.
Sounds like the Boxing Banker's situation. If you really want to box, show your parents your dedication to the sport, but also let them know you have a plain B just in case boxing doesn't work out. Boxing is just like any other professional sport. many enter, but very few reaches the status of the De La Hoya and Mayweathers.
Let them know you have done your homework and you realize and except the pros and cons of the sport. Sometime you can win over the dad. Me when I entered the sport of Boxing I won over my grandfather. He convinced my parents it was ok. I never made it to the pros, but I really enjoyed my amateur career while it lasted.
What should I do?
