Who would win in a match, Liston era Muhammad Ali, or Foreman era Muhammad Ali? |
Who would win in a match, Liston era Muhammad Ali, or Foreman era Muhammad Ali? I gotta go with the older version of Ali, even though the youngster had skills and youth, the older had the intelligence and experience to exploit a younger man. Great question, I had to think about it, and youth is the great equalizer in boxing it was a tough call that could have went either way. Foreman would have beat Liston. If your talking Cassius Clay against Muhammad Ali, Clay would have won. Much quicker. Liston era i think because he wasnt having to worry about the army and all that and he was younger. thanks ~Cherokee74 I think the early 70's Ali was better. He was bigger, stronger and a lot smarter fighter. Three pluses against being a bit slower. I just watched the Marciano/Ali computer fight, and in the documentary, the experts talked about how young Ali jabbed with feet together, totally upright, eliminating any power, and was very susceptible to a crouching pressure fighter like Marciano or as we found out in their first fight - Frazier. As he got older and bigger and smarter, he began to correct the flaws that he had earlier. That is why he did better against Frazier later on. Another great question RIO ;) Very realavent to me after just seeing that documentary. easily the liston era ali was much faster and hungrier, stronger. even though ali may have missed his prime while suspended i think he at the top of his game in the liston era and just smarter at the foreman era as i mentioned before the ali of 1964 was 22 years old. 6 feet 3 inches tall, 212 pounds, 80 reach, posessed hand speed and foot speed unmatched by any heavyweight past or present in the heavyweight. no one could lay a solid punch on him and his ring generalship was beyond compare. ali had his opponents beaten before he got in the ring with them. |
