Rate these gold medal heavyweights? |
alexander povetkin, audley harrison, vladimir klitschko, roberto balado, lennox lewis, tyrell biggs, teofilio stevenson, george foreman, joe fraizer, and franco de piccoli. The top 5 would go like this 1. Lennox Lewis 2. George Foreman 3. Wladimir Klitchko 4. Joe Frazier 5. Alexander Povetkin Big George all the way baby! 1968 - a time of social unrest and questionable acts of protest by other athletes at the Olympics - Foreman wins the Gold Medal match and parades around the ring waving the American Flag. It just doesn't get any better! I can't even rate the boxers after that vision. :) I'll stick only with the ones I know.... 1. George Foreman 2. Joe Frazier 3. Wladimir K 4. Lennox Lewis 5. Audley Harrison 6. Tyrell Biggs The difference between #4 and #5 on my list is monumental by the way, Lewis is a HOF boxer while Harrison struggles just to get to be a contender. I feel Wlad is a tad better than Lewis as a boxer. Lewis may have had a better chin, but Wlad is a harder puncher with a better KO record, and has had more fights and wins 1 George Foreman 2.Joe Frazyer 3.Lewis I honestly believe that Teofilo Stevenson could have held his own with any of the others, including Forman, Fraizer and Lewis the Cuban great was that accomplished a boxer. The rest are lesser accomplished heavyweights that I consider B rated. Vladimier Kiltschko's chin is more suspect than Lewis's, but even with a glass jaw, Klitschko ranks 5th on the list, primarily due to his work with Emanuel Steward. I put Tyrell Biggs 6th just to irritate the Povetkin fans and have Balado and Piccoli in a tie for last. I'll rate the ones I know. 1. George Foreman - unstoppable & if it wasn't for Ali he may have been the greatest heavyweight ever!!! 2. Lennox Lewis - whipped Riddick Bowe in the gold medal fight & was a great heavyweight champion. 3. Joe Frazier - great heart, his size, Ali & Foreman were the only things stopping him from being one of the greatest ever!! 4. Teofillo Stevenson - I'll give him some credit but he was a grown man beating kids. He fought into his 30's against 18-21 year olds. If he would have fought as a pro during the Ali era, Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Shavers would have killed him. 5. Vladimir Klitschko - size is intimidating but he has a glass jaw & before he was trained by Emmauel Stewart was just a big puncher. ps the most overrated heavyweight gold medalist was Tyrell Biggs, he lost in the olympic trials to Craig Payne but was given a decision because they thought he had the best chance to win a gold. He lost to Tyson, Bowe & Lennox Lewis but also lost to club fighters like Tony Tubbs, Buster Mathis Jr & Larry Donald. Probably the most overrated gold medalist ever in any weight class!!!! 1) FOREMAN 2) FRAZIER 3) LEWIS 4) KLITSCHKO 5) HARRISON The rest aren't even worth naming and are nobody's (bums) |
