Ruslan Chagaev is he worthy of "White Tyson" nickname. He's 23-0-1, 17 KOs beating the giant Valuev recently? |
http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2/hea... Tyson had his first loss 18 fights after Chagaev. At this point of his career Tyson was 23-0 with 21 KO's. Are the styles really that similar? Mrraraavis, I'm sure that there is some reason why Ruslan is called "White Tyson" nowadays, but to be perfectly honest I have no idea what that is. I can however tell you that it's most definitely not because of style because they are two completely different fighters. Tyson was more athletic, he was faster more explosive and he had more knock out power as well and these physical attributes were exactly what he was relying on the most through his career. Chagaev, on the other hand, is also a powerful fighter, but he is a perfect technician in the ring before anything else, probably one of the best in this department heavyweight division has ever had. From what I've seen, his defensive skills are also better then Mike's and their tactical abilities are absolutely beyond any comparison. While Tyson's game plan was always the same - power forward, bully the opponent break through his defense and knock him out, and when ever that didn't work he would loose, Chagaev has the ability to adapt his style, work out a strategy which would suite him best for the given opponent and then employ it perfectly. You saw how he handled Valuev. He had such incredible physical disadvantage, and yet completely dominated the man and made him look like total rookie in that match. So overall I believe that Ruslan, even though inferior as an athlete, is a significantly more complete boxer then Mike ever was and, like I said, based on style and ring demeanor this nickname would be completely inappropriate. On the other hand, even though Ruslan is currently a world champion and his career has been perfect so far, there is still a lot more work for him to do and fights to win before he can match Mike's results and achievements in the ring and earn the right to have that nickname in such manner. So in the end, after all this, I guess I'm right back at the start. I have absolutely no idea why Ruslan Chagaev is called "White Tyson" nowadays. I really don't. That's all I can tell you. NO THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANYONE LIKE THE YOUNG MIKE TYSON HE COULD PUT YOU DOWN WITH ONE PUNCH IN ANY ROUND SO KNOW HE IS NOT WORTHY. I doubt if he'd like that. It would be like calling a black guy "The Black Charles Manson". Not really worthy. Wlad K was 24-0 with 21 KO's in his first 24 fights. And one of those 3 non KO wins was a DQ. Thats more worthy of a nickname like White Tyson. Hell Vitali K was 24-0 with 24 KO's in his first 24 fights!!! Thats better than Tyson himself! Basically Ruslan is not worthy of calling himself that nickname. And I'm not sure why anyone would want that nickname, wouldn't you rather make a name for yourself instead of using someone elses? I strongly agree with Sam H. Also, I don't see why anyone would want to use "Tyson" as part of their name considering all the bulls**t he has been through during his career in or out the ring. I think its a bit strange that he has that nickname it seems almost like a bit of a cheap gimmic. Tyson was a great fighter and Chagaev may well have looked up to him the most and been influence by him the most as a fighter. But as a current undefeated world champion i think its stange to have a nickname that includes a name from a past champion. Ive only seen parts of his fight with Valuev so i couldent comment on weather his and Tysons styles are similar? but i recon he would be better off with a new nickname and be known in his own right rather than the white version of another fighter. I'm not so sure Ruslan would continue to use the nick name if he knew Tyson was better know as a cannibalistic rapist than a boxer, but you never know. I would like to see Mike Tyson fight this guy, Chagaev could get a pretty decent pay pay and America's could see Mike regain the heavyweight championship of the world. Tyson would EAT Ruslan Chagaev for lunch, neither of the Russian's ears would survive the fight. |
