How long was muhamad ali in jail for? |
How long was muhamad ali in jail for? Ali did serve time in prison, the facts are still shrouded, but from 1967 to 1970, he was in and out of jail and stripped of his professional titles. Some people believe those years made him a smarter fighter, many say we lost the prime of the greatest of all time. In the day (I was 14 in 1970) I was not an Ali fan. I wanted Joe Frazier to punch him right in the mouth. Now, I (and most of the world) regard Ali as the most important sports figure of all time. Years ago, there was a famous experiment to test what the fasted arm motion in sports was; Jimmy Connors' forehand, Jack Nicholas' swing, Bob Gibson's pitch. The winner was Ali's jab. "After a long court battle, Ali was convicted of draft evasion and sentenced to five years in jail and fined $10,000 fine" http://novaonline.nvcc.edu/eli/evans/his... Ali didn't have to go to jail unlike most draft dodgers. That was a time of racial strife and riots over the murder of Martin Luther King and such. If Ali goes to jail, cities will burn, so they gave him a pass. Ali was not in jail for being a contientious objector. He might have been in jail for a traffic violation in Miami before the Liston fight but other than that has only been in a jail as a visitor. Ali never spent anytime in jail, you asked this same question a month ago and were given the same answer. "Hell no, I ain't got no quarrel with them Vietcong" and "What's wrong with me going to jail for something I believe in? This quote from Ali proves to me that he was the greatest. You don't have to agree with his stand, but he made his decision and accepted the consequences. The facts are clear- Ali spent 29 months of a 5 year sentence behind bars and the sentence was finally thrown out on appeal.. |
