What is the differenc between a right straight and right cross?

or are they the same punch?.whats different about them?.also whats the hardest punch a boxer can throw? and whats the difference between a hook and haymaker or are they just different names for the same punch?

A haymaker is any punch intended to KO the opponent with one shot. Generally considered a wild swing.

I've always considered the straight right and the right cross to be pretty much the same. However, the cross is usually thrown to counter a left jab (with both fighters in orthodox/right hand stance). It'll cross over the opponent's extended left and land. Larry Holmes, who jabbed more than any heavy, would counter a cross over his jab by rotating his left elbow upwards, thus absorbing the blow along his upper arm instead of his head. Earnie Shavers knocked Holmes down with a cross that was blocked in that fashion. The ref ruled it a slip, though it could have easily been scored a knockdown.

If you want to see how a cross is thrown, watch any Thomas Hearns fight. Vicious cross, nothing girlie at all about it.
Right straight the fist ends up directly in front of the shoulder coinciding with the punch. (i.e. if you throw a straight right, it will end up in front of your right shoulder) A cross ends up in front of the opposite shoulder. (so a right cross the fist would end in front of your left shoulder) The hardest punch depends on the boxer, but a solid uppercut normally does the most damage when landed. A hook is actually a punch, a haymaker is actually descriptive to mean a very hard punch, but a lot of people describe an uppercut as a haymaker. So in that case it kind of depends on who you talk to. (because theoretically, you could throw two hooks, one could land flush and be described by some as a haymaker, the other could completely miss and not be at all a haymaker)
well I'm a lover not a fighter, but I love to fight! (only joking). I'm assuming the difference between the two punches are that the right cross is a little off centre coming from the side of the boxer, whereas a straight right is lead from your chin straight out infront of you. Not much power comes from a girlie right cross.
The right straight and the right cross are essentially the same punch..they are chambered in the same position...its their endpoints that are the difference.

A right straight, you consider that a straight trajectory punch. For example, a right straight thrown at the head...you would target the punch going thru the face and to the back of the head...its a straight forward punch that you try to get to go THRU the target.

A right cross...goes across the target. Using the same target (the face) your straight punch would go across their face, turning it to their right (your left) where your end point would be ideally above their right shoulder....again going thru your target.

Tae Kwon Do teaches the concept of the "killer knockout" hit...whether it be a punch, a kick...etc. Boxing teaches more the power of combination punches....hence the term "combos kill".

In concept...rather than inflicting pain with one major shot...you attempt (or succeed) in hitting four or five shots...mixing body with head...causing the opponent to have too much neurologically to handle...and begin to break down. Its why combination punchers like Miguel Cotto and Manny Pac have such short fights or the people they fight look exhausted. Neurologically they are trying to heal five points of pain all at once....constantly.

So my advice would be practice all of your punches (one will always become dominant)...and practice targeting in combinations while being evasive. That in and of itself was the basic key to sucess for Mike Tyson. Once he stopped throwing combinations...he stopped his percentages of knockouts.
a right cross would end up on your left side and a right staight would stay on your right
