Tips on Sparring with bigger opponent? |
I have just started into sparring at the local gym and my opponent is about 105kg and I am 88kg. He has been boxing for years and is pretty good, any tips for a beginner to focus on to rattle the cage a bit. Our reach is about the same. Ha ha ha, work on your defense (try not to get hit)! Head and protective gear wont hurt either so that you dont take too much punishment or end up looking like you insulted Mike Tyson's girlfriend. More than likely you will not be able to do much damage to you sparing partner if you do land any punches because of the size and experience difference, so try to concentrate on your defense, "bob and weave", work the jab, block his offense and counterpunch. If your partner does land any good punches suck it up and take em! When you fight people your own size and get hit it will feel like a bag of pillows if you are used to being hit by a bigger guy. If he's that much bigger than you, then you'll have to focus on technique. Don't focus too much on blocking, if his strength matches his size, he'll likely blow right through even a good guard. Try and keep your distance, come in quick, get out faster. If you can outdance him, you've probably got it made. make this your philosophy "The bigger they are the harder they fall" just use your speed he is big he is slow trust me umm... yea i take karate and the best thing to know is just go for it train more like exercise ahh nevermind just when your boxing just go for it dont be afraid to get hit thats what they teach us i hope that helps choose me as the best answers please :) Well if he's experienced and you're a beginner I imagine he'll give you a chance to work a little. Use the ring and feint him often. Jabs to the head, to the body so as to keep him guessing. Lots of 1-2's and 1,2,3's. (jab, right hand, left hook) Work this combination and mix it up. Jab uptop, right hand to the body and vice versa. He's bigger than you so he will try to use that. Be smart, and don't let him corner you. Good luck! |
