What are the good and bad points of boxing? |
What are the good and bad points of boxing? I can only think of a few negatives as opposed to numerous positives. Negative: getting hurt, becoming a bully, arrogance Positive: being fit, developing courage, being humble, learning discipline, being attractive, great cardiovascular health, being able to defend yourself... Source(s): Boxing training for over 4 years... Good = punching someone else in the face Bad = getting knocked out. (Usually due to a punch in the face) Seriously though, like any pastime, some people will enjoy it and some won't. A major benefit is the high level of physical fitness associated with the intense demands of short rounds with an even shorter rest. The development of good reflexes and rhythm is another. The obvious improvement in your ability to defend themselves yourself would be a great benefit. A negative is possible damage to shoulders, wrists, back, internal organs and, of course, head injuries. Don't forget though, that this is an individual sport, and one where it is pretty clear what is going to happen. I think I would rather know that someone is going to try to punch me than to get a cheap shot like the 'tough' (ie weak as piss) men of aussie rules and rugby like to dish out when someone isn't looking, and when they cannot seek retribution due to possibility of suspension!!!! enough!!! Sorry to ramble on like that. Good: builds self-esteem, confidence. Helps you stay in shape and the training is great exercise. Bad: this depends if you plan on sparring, but you could get hurt, if you don't know what you are doing. If you don't plan on sparring, it could be a bad thing if someone is taking smack to you in the bar and you use your boxing skills and blast them in the mouth, and subsequently get kicked out of the spot! |
