Bob Fitzsimmons vs Young Stribling. Who wins? |
15 rounds at cruiserweight Fitz was tough as nails, but I think that Stribling was one of the greatest boxers ever and one of the greatest human beings to boot. The pious one uses his superior size, reach, movement, and some serious right hand counters, to nullify Fitz' rushes and wins a convicing 15 round decision. Then he goes home to Macon, pours a glass of wine, puts on the Allman Brothers' "Eat A Peach" album, and quietly celebrates his victory. Fitzsimmons has always been considered a technical boxer, Stribling more tough and hard. I say Stribling pounds down Fitzsimmons inside of 40 rounds, even though Bob takes a few early rounds. Stribling by ko in 38 rounds. I give stribling just the slight edge. Both these boxers could knock your teeth out with one of there 'worst' punches. Both of these fellows would know they were in a fight when they went head-to-head. Jim Corbett ( who in my opinion was a master and a wizard in the ring in his day ) said of Stribling, the man was as good or better than any he had seen at feinting ( and thats sayin a h.e.l.l of a lot coming from Corbett ). So with Stribling's great feinting skills in mind, this is why i give him the edge, because Stribling knows that in fighting Fitz. he could be ko'd at any time, so he starts ulitizing those superior feinting skills to set Fitz. up for his own ko. However in a couple of Stribling's fights, he didnt follow through ( why ? who knows, overly cautious ?) These is his one weakness he could'nt allow to crop up in a fight with Fitzsimmons, otherwise he would be looking up counting clouds.Still give it to Strib. though. ( i'am not even going to try and predict a round however. ) This would be one GREAT fight. ( great matchup and question bluedevil ). Good point jazbac-a true gentleman in every way. Experience -Stribling he had a ton of fights and he was a great boxer. Power about equal. Chin-- Stribling one of the greats, Fitzsimmons chin is suspect. Stribling wins this fight by unanimous decision. |
