Cleveland Williams vs Oscar Bonavena. Who wins? |
15 rounds in their prime Both guys had their ups and downs. Williams was KO'd quick twice by Sonny Liston, in 2 and 3 rounds. Lost a split-decision to Ernie Terrell. KO'd in 3 by Ali, drew with Eddie Machen, KO'd by Bob Satterfield. Oscar lost to Zora Foley and Jimmy Ellis, but fought Joe Frazier two times, decking him twice in the first fight which he lost by split-decision, then losing a 15 round decision. He lost a spirited contest with Ali in the 15th round. Neither guy could grasp the gold ring, but Oscar had the better chin and better endurance. Both guys could hit. It would be close, but if Williams couldn't get Oscar out early-and nobody ever did- Oscar would wear Williams down and KO Williams late or win a decision. The prime Big Cat Williams would knock Oscar out in less than 5 rounds. Bonavena too tough for Williams, late round TKO. Bonavena KO's Williams in 7 Bonavena was a tough durable fighter, and Williams had more skills. I think the "big cat" takes this one. Williams by decision. |
