day heavyweight... I have scored my share of knockouts but more often than not my opponets had to be knocked down repeatedly. The same is true of Joe Louis.MARCIANO only needs one solid smash and it is all over.That is why i think he is the hardest hitting heavyweight ever"...... DO YOU AGREE with Jack Dempsey Ezzard Charles was one of the very greatest boxers in history. He managed to avoid the big shot from Rocky. Nothing to be ashamed of. Foreman got beat by Jimmy Young who couldn't punch a time card! Charles got KO'd by Rocky in 8 rounds the second time around. Walcott dropped in the 1st round the second time around. Seems like once you've been in with Rocky, you are too busted up to fight good again! Rocky had the legs and forearms of a 230 pound man, and that's where you get your power, so the weight issue is really a non issue. Rocky was also just as fresh in the 15th as he was in the 1st. You cant say that about Foreman and those other huge guys. As for Ali, the reason why Marciano won the computer fight was because Ali had a couple of flaws that Rocky would have exploited. First - young Ali was a terrible inside fighter. He just wasn't exposed by those marginal guys in the 60's who weren't experts at cutting off like Rocky was. The crouching pressure style was the way to beat him. That is why Frazier whipped him badly in the first fight. Even the one- armed Frazier would have knocked Ali out late in that fight if he would have had Rocky's stamina and power. And Frazier ain't no Marciano! Young Ali's other flaw was that he had nothing on that quick jab because he was going backwards with it, and his feet were together in an upright position - can't get ANY power going that way. His ONLY chance is a cut stoppage, and they were a lot more liberal about that back in those days. So, you guys can cry, protest, march on Washington, or whatever, but you KNOW I'm right if you know boxing. Dont be silly. Sharkey never got hit by anyone outside of his era. Can you imagine Marciano trying to keep a 20 year old Mike Tyson off of him? Thats hilarious. Tyson??!!! lololololmao. Anyway I agree with Dempsey, the man knew would he was talking about. How many heavyweights in history have fractured an opponents forearms? Answer, Marciano. People can knock him all they want. The 9 year olds who love Tyson.Lewis,Liston e.t.c. Have no concept of how hard the 'Brockton Blockbuster' punched. The man was all muscle with forearms like Popeye! Trained harder than almost ANY fighter in history and left a legacy for real fight fans to look at in aw. nuff said. ex fighter and lover of the sweet science yes Rock hit as hard as any heavyweight in history, and harder than most. Something tells me Dempsey knew a little bit more about hard punching than we do. Blogbaba seen some heavy hitters over the years, and Rock is up there with the best of them. George Foreman said that he hit Ali with the hardest punches that he had hit anyone, and that Ali had said to him, " Is that all you got George", now Foreman probably hit harder than Marciano seeing what he did to Frazier and Norton and I honestly think that Marciano would not have managed to do the same, especially in a couple of rounds to these two in particular, given that a much lighter person ( Ezzard Charles ) went the distance with him. So when Jack Dempsey said that Marciano only needs one solid smash and it is all over, I think he must have temporarily forgot about the Ezzard Charles fight because he certainly hit Charles with everything he had, including the kitchen sink. My point being that if Charles could take his punches for so long then so would Ali, in fact as we all know, Marciano would not have got anywhere near the punches in against Ali as he did Charles, in my opinion and that of the majority of boxing fans, I believe Marciano would have been cut to ribbons simply because he did cut and and he didn't have a defence that could prevent him being cut and there was nobody more equiped to exploit this weakness than Ali. So in my opinion even if Marciano was the hardest hitting heavyweight it would not have saved him against Ali. |
