Sam Langford vs Joe Frazier. Who wins? |
15 rounds in their primes. Man blue, you know how to pick a tough call. Langford is legendary and Frazier is an all time great with arguably the best left hook in the history of the heavyweight division. If there is an advantage it goes to Frazier, and it is a slight size advantage. Everything else is too close to call, Frazier was a throw back to the days of Langford, and no matter how many times Joe got knocked down, he always got up and kept coming. This one would prove to the Frazier critics that Joe really was an all time great, because that slight advantage would be enough. Frazier by split decision. Impossible to say. I lean toward Frazier. Size. Toughness. Langford, however, knew things about boxing, had skills Frazier never even dreamed about. Never had a clue. Langford was a true Professor in the classroom of the ring. And his lessons always hurt. Too close to call. Langford had tons more of experience but Frazier is never going to quit coming at him. Draw Great fight. Both are great boxer, puncher. Sam has a better jab, right hand. Joe has a better left hook. Sam will come straight in with his stiff jab like a 2by4 stick to Joe face setting up for the right hand to come but Joe constant bobbing and weaving making it hard for Sam. In the end Joe size advantage and constant body punching will slow Sam down and when he land that left hook flush like he did again Ali in their first fight fight will be over. Why? cause when he hit Ali, Ali was going backward lessen the impact of the punch, Sam is not a runner he will come forward so the impact will be even harder. Who could say. They fought in two different times. Different styles, rules, training methods, etc. Joe Frazier, like Langford had great heart, but he was basically a one dimensional fighter. Could only go forward while winging hooks and big shots. Langford was a master boxer and could slug. It would not take him very long to read Frazier's style and adjust to it. I would go with Langford winning via a decision. Unfortunately they both fought too long. Joe's speech is slurred (took too many head shots to land one) and Langford went blind from the punishment his eyes took in the ring. He died broke, sick and alone. Not a great time for black worriors like Sam. A real shame. However, Frazier will never be the boxing legend that Langford is. an opinion |
