When he first joined the lakers that number was taken who is he? a soccer player? He found out that It was mike D'Antoni's # when Mike played B'ball Kobe hates the suns and changed it. He doesnt play soccer for Brazil, so I don't care. Wrong category. No idea on the Brazilian called Koby or what a jerzey is. As far as the lakers' Kobe and his jersey #...who knows but the #8 before was to honor his hero Mike D'Antoni (#8 on his Italian league team) whom he watched while Kobe grew up in Italy. You realize that's where he basically spent his childhood as his after played in the Italian league after his NBA career was done. Anyway, change # = sell more jerseys as someone posted.
