Camping in july with 13 month old?

anyone done this before? any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. it is going to be very hot at night so we do have a fan for his tent. he sleeps in a crib, i was considering just putting his playpen in a little pup tent just for him so he won't be disturbed. are we going to be able to take him and have fun? hes a pretty good little boy. but still very babyish. and not walking yet, but trying very hard and possibly will be walking by the time we go camping. thanks

Yes, I have camped with very young children. Prepare to take along your running shoes, with an active 13 month old baby along.

I'm not comfortable with that pup tent just for him, leaving him more or less alone at night with a fan in his tent. What happens if he manages to get at the fan? Or climb out of that playpen and wander about? You will probably be camping near a lake, so I would keep that baby right in the larger tent with myself. In that way, he will be safe, and if he awakens, he won't be frightened.

Take along plenty of toys and a stroller for taking walks. You should enjoy your camping trip and it will be a great memory for you.
Well, you (or someone) will have to watch the baby at all times. I don't think it's a good idea to have the baby by itself in its own tent...unless you want to re-enact Meryl Streep's "Dingo ate my baby" scene.

And I don't see how you can go hiking with a 13-month old. I guess you can strap him on your back if it's a light easy trail.

If you & your hubby want to have fun and do camping activities as a couple, I'd bring a nanny along.
I would get bug repellent like Skin So Soft or ask your pediatrician if Off for Families spray is okay yet. Also get some tiki torches or citronella candles.
They have portable fans at Walmart- I saw few days ago under 20 bucks.
And sunscreen would be a must.
My toddler loves the outdoors - but all kids are different.
Pup tent sounds fine but prob not necc

Just make sure you bring enough toys for him that he really likes since he won't recognize the new surroundings and sometimes that spooks babies.

Have fun!
Yes, I've done this before and it can be done, (I had 6 kids)and you can all have fun. Be sure and take along plenty of what baby needs, including SUNSCREEN with 45 spf, SkinSoSoft for repellant against insects, and whatever extras you can think of. Lots of extra everything! Diapers, toys, clothes, snacks, band-aids, diapy-wipes, be ready for ANY emergencies. Also, please... don't put him in a tent alone, he'll be afraid if you're not there in case he gets frightened, someone could steal him, he could wander off, many things could happen and you'd never forgive yourself. You'll all be happier being together, and that's what camping's all about.....TOGETHERNESS. Even if you learn that "camping with your baby" is not for you, it'll be an experience you'll always remember. Take the camera and take plenty of pictures too, they'll be priceless someday, for you and for him. Have a lot of fun and God bless you all.
personal experience with 6 kiddo's........
I have done this with my own son at that age and he was a problem. My mom was with us and wound up taking him home in the middle of night that was 17 years ago. On the other hand we took our 18 month old grandson last year and he wasn't too much trouble. A bit hard to get to bed but once down he was OK. We took a small playpen and put it in middle of tent and put a fan on him and he was fine. I would suggest getting away from other campers some if possible so if he has issues you won't disturb them as much. If you are car camping you can always get into car and cool him off or even take him for a ride that will put most little ones to sleep.
R U KIDDING? U wont have any fun at all. Your baby wont have any either! If you think its hard takin care of him at home just wait.Even if he is walkin by the time u go, do u think hell b able to keep up?Your best bet would b to rent a cabin or an R.V. Think about it, where will he b playin if it rains? Dont want to dampen your spirits any , but you have to plan 4 any event with a child. hope this helps.
