Ladies and camping? |
Over the weekend I went on my first actual camping trip in woods with tents (One night only, and yes it's sad that I'm a grown women that never got to go camping until now). I muttled through it OK and did have a good time but I wonder if there are any websites or guide books for the novice female camper. Something that teaches the basics like what does poison ivy look like, or how do you actually go pee in the woods? Those stupid silly questions no one would actually ask people they are camping with. Those arent stupid questions...really if your family didnt camp when you were a kid, then how would you know? I wasnt a member of Girl Scouts or anything, so I never would have learned if I hadnt had camping family. I dont know if there are websites or books...Im sure there are. Just do some research on survival guides..that would probably help you. Remember the old saying...3 leaves leave be....meaning poison ivy has 3 leaves. other than that..have fun researching! www.amazon.com/Camping-Dummies... www.campingwomen.org www.roadandtravel.com/adventur... Couldn't find one specifically for ladies but here's a link to where I did an amazon search. The Dummies one looks pretty good. And no.....I'm not assuming you are one :-) http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/102... The only way to go is in a motor home {rv}> there may have been portapotties and there may not. You can but a funnel that you hold to yourself so you can relieve yourself standing up, like those lucky guys. you can also buy small rolls of toilet paper that come in a plastic container. sometimes the porta potties aren't the cleanest, or there isn't any paper or when you are in there you try to touch anything the very least that you have too. if you don't go camping often buy a raft at the dollar store it will probably only last you weekend but for two bucks what the heck. of course it won't be like a bed, but it can help with those pesky rocks that always end up under your tent. battery fans. we camp at a couple places that don't have electricity or the price just isn't worth it. we sleep with one of those. poison ivy has three leaves coming from the same part, but you'd also wanna know about sumac and oak! As for an actual guide...i'm sure they have a "camping for dummies" book (no offense of course) http://camping.about.com/ http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/health_pro... as for peeing in the woods make sure no one can see you and drop your pants squat and pee. OK~ This made me reflect on very fond memories. Way back when I used to take my sister all over with me and she learned so much about woodsmenship. As a gag one year I bought her a book. The book (how to sh!t in the woods) has an entire chapter for women, like how to not pee in your boots and how to handle that "sensitive female issue". Enjoy your new adventures. |
