Best way to clean camping gear? |
What's the best way to clean a water bladder and misc. camping gear....besides the obvious which is soap and water? Well water bladders i always use a T. of baking soda and lemoned juice and risen the bladder then wash it out with water hand it up to dry so that it will not get moldy. I'm not sure what else you need cleaned but soap and water is always good for plates and stuff. if its a tent use a hose and wash it out after sweeping it out with a broom. Baby wipes or disinfecting wipes work for being out doors but give plenty of time to air dry and rinse of course. water bladder inside use Milton, outside hot soapy water or mild bleach if discoloured. Anything waterproofed i.e canvas or awnings use something like fabsil cleaner which does not remove the proofing. I always wash mine down with it end of season then reproof and repair on a warm day ready for next year dry thoroughly and pack away for winter. If you're strapped for resources then a dash of shaving foam always does the trick. If you're preparing to go, just a small amount of lemon juice should help and never wash things in something that isn't as solid as a rock. Travel washing basins aren't easy to fit, but they are necessity if you're out there for the week and you intend on doing the dishes somewhere other than at home. For clothes, it's got to be a combo of baking soda and sometimes some salt (only for toughest stains). The Baking soda's good for cleaning a water bladder too, but try your best to find water purifying tablets at your closest Army Surplus. Clean the bladder with Salt water first, then send in the water purifying tablet and shake like you've never shaken before! |
