Has anyone been to the angeles national forest?

how was it? did you reserve a spot or did you just showed up? anywhere good to camp with around 30 ppl? any info will help thanx

Sure - I enjoy camping there often. I usually go up to Mt. Pinos (West of Frazier Park by 13 mi, off of I-5, North of LA) I just show up at McGill Campground. The cost is $12 per night and there are clean, nice primitive toilets, but no running water. The earlier you get there on Friday or Saturday, the better space you'll get. I tent camp and there are always good spaces. If you have an RV, all of the parking is flat and level. Some of the LA National Forests require a "Forest Service Adventure Pass." These are $30/year and available at sporting goods stores like Big 5, and Sports Chalet. McGill has a group camping area too, and I believe that you can make reservations for the group site here...
