Has anyone been to the angeles national forest? |
how was it? did you reserve a spot or did you just showed up? anywhere good to camp with around 30 ppl? any info will help thanx Sure - I enjoy camping there often. I usually go up to Mt. Pinos (West of Frazier Park by 13 mi, off of I-5, North of LA) I just show up at McGill Campground. The cost is $12 per night and there are clean, nice primitive toilets, but no running water. The earlier you get there on Friday or Saturday, the better space you'll get. I tent camp and there are always good spaces. If you have an RV, all of the parking is flat and level. Some of the LA National Forests require a "Forest Service Adventure Pass." These are $30/year and available at sporting goods stores like Big 5, and Sports Chalet. McGill has a group camping area too, and I believe that you can make reservations for the group site here... http://www.rockymountainrec.com/camp/pad... The McGill Campground is located on Mount Pinos, 13 miles west of Frazier Park and a one hour drive from the greater Los Angeles area. The campground is open from mid-April through mid-November. CAMPING: The campground has 78 family campsites complete with a picnic table, barbecue and fire ring. Room for tents and RVs. There are 2 group campsites; one accommodates up to 60 people and the other one accommodates up to 80 people. Family Campsite $12 per site, per night Group Campsite $75 per site, per night Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance for group sites. Maximum 14-night stay. SERVICES & FACILITIES: Vault toilets and non-potable water are provided. Bring drinking water with you. THINGS TO DO: Hiking and Mountain Biking DIRECTIONS: Take Interstate 5 to Frazier Park exit. Go west on Frazier Mountain Park Road for 6 miles to Cuddy Valley Road. Bear right at Cuddy Valley Road to Lockwood Valley Road. Continue 6 miles to Mount Pinos Highway. Go 5 miles to McGill Campground entrance. |
