What is the difference between bouldering and regular climbing? |
What is the difference between bouldering and regular climbing? Bouldering is ropeless, yes... You usually do it with a "crew" who take turns working the 'problem" and spotting each other, with the help of a crash pad. It is often steep, overhanging, difficult and may only involve a sequence of a few tough moves. Lots of fun, and good for building power and technique. For many it is the only climbing they do, for others it's just good practice and good fun. I have a friend who only boulders ever since he got stuck on a climb for hours, hehe.. bouldering is when you use no harness no support holds. rock climbing you have supports to help you if you slip. Rock climbing is used to scale high, vertical or near-vertical rock faces, and normally (though not always) uses a number of different rope systems for safe reasons Bouldering is used to "scramble" across diagonal and near-vertical rock faces. In stead of ropes, boulders who choose to use protection use it in the form of a spotter, and/or large gymnastic pads called crash pads. |
