Raising the handlebars on a mongoose XR-200?
Can anyone tell me how to raise the handlebars on a mongoose xr-200. I bought this at walmart and there was no manual and the one I downloaded from the mongoose website was pretty vague. thanks, Bob.
I've checked out a picture, and since it is a threadless headset, there are two ways to raise the height of your handlebars...
1. The stem - It is not adjustable, you'd have to replace it with a stem that has more rise. You could also get an adjustable stem.
Here is a website that tells you how to change the stem:
2. The handlebars.... You could get handlebars with more rise. This is more complicated, as you have to take everything off your bars.

I suggest replacing the stem first, and then the handlebars if that is not enough rise. Source(s): work in a bike shop
Bottom line is that you can't raise the handlebars unless you purchase a stem with a higher rise or higher rise handlebars.
Be aware that if you choose to raise them you will throw off the suspension (since there will be more weight on your butt and less on your hands) and may make riding a drag.
This is one of the reasons I recommend against buying a full suspension bike unless you are going to stay off road... suspension is to keep the wheels on the ground for better handling, not necessarily for comfort so riding a full sus bike on the road just eats your energy and makes it harder to ride.
