How hard is it to change the back tire of a mountain bike?

i cant get the chain off

It depends on what you're trying to do exactly...a lot of people mistake the tire for the tube.

Either way, you need to get the wheel off. To do that, either loosen the bolts or the quick release where the wheel is attached to the frame of your bike. Now to get the chain off, grasp the jockey cage of your derailleur (the long thing that sticks out of the thing that lets you change gears) and push it forward, which puts a lot of slack in your chain. This gives you enough room to pull the wheel out of the dropout (the space where the axle runs through) and then you can just pull the wheel clear of the bike. If you have rim brakes, be sure to disengage them before pulling the wheel out, you can do that by manually pushing the two brake arms together and then pulling the cable off the clasp, or if you have disc brakes, then you can disregard this step.

Now that you've got the wheel free of the bike, deflate the tube and pull the tire off, if you have levers, it can make it a little easier, although i never use them and I've never had trouble. Now if you're replacing the tube because the tube is flat for whatever reason, then pull out the old one, inflate your new tube slightly (this makes it way easier) and put it on the rim and slip the tire on top, then put the wheel back on the same way you got it off. If you're trying to replace the tire, then it's also a similar process, it should be pretty self explanatory.

You should just loosen the tire so it slides in the mounting bracket, and then the chain will be looser. Move the rear gear changing thingy and then move the chain out of the way to take the tire off. To install, do what you did but in reverse.

*You may have to loosen the brakes a little too...try to remember your setting from where you moved it. Sometimes they can get tricky and not feel right after you mess with them.

Are you talking about removing the whole wheel to change a flat tube or replace the tire itself? Try the website below.

it depends if you have quick relase wheels or not, how many gears you have and how tight your chain is.
