What cyclists impress you the most?

Is there a cyclist who has really impressed you. I don't mean someone like Lance Armstrong. But someone that none of the rest of us has ever heard of.

For me that person would be Dan Polhemus. Unless you're really into bugs you've probably never heard of Dan Polhemus. Who could forget his memorable book "Hawaiian Damselflies" You can probably guess that Dan was not the most athletically gifted person in the world, but through shear will and tenacity he was able to become a competitive Cat. 2 racer. That impressed the hell out of me, and I'm not one who's easily impressed. I was the type of rider who was always looking for something to hate about my fellow racers, because the more that I disliked them, the worse I wanted to beat them. But Dan was one person that I could never dislike. There are a number of riders that I admire for their talent, but Dan was one that I admired for his character.

I have to give two answers- first would be the Vogel family (parents and two kids- 9y/o twins) who rode from their home in Idaho to Conn via Pacific coast, Mexico, and eastern seaboard- it was a year long trip. Sounds like a blast, and something I wish I could one day do.

next would be a pro down-hiller- Marla Streb, not only is she a pro rider, holds a masters in Biology (and worked in the research field), a concert level pianist, accomplished sailor and mother... fairly impressive in my book.
For me it's the person who as far as you know they just have raw talent! One guy, Chris, lately I found out a family man with incredible endurance. He can toodle around with everyone or set the pace so high that riders are being left in the dust left and right and pieces of your lungs are spit out to the side of the road. I like his tradition of riding out to the rides. The ride starts 15 miles away? No prob. see you there.

Another guy Bo now in Austin, a young buck manager for a computer company. Faster than anyone I know and just as common as pigtracks but with a sense of playfull trickiness. He would let you expell your energy and be ready to pounce as soon as you showed a hint of hesitation.
