I got 8th pick in my Fantasy Football Draft. Who should I be looking to get first? Best available player... It will most likely be a mid-tier RB, or you might have a shot at Peyton Manning. I prefer RBs who catch the ball a lot. At 8, you will probably have your choice between Rudi Johnson, Willie Parker, Laurence Maroney. Shaun Alexander could slide to you, but I doubt it. These are all decent options on productive offenses. All good... If Manning is sitting there, you might want to take him. Averaging 35 TDs is tasty. When it swings back around, you could grab Travis Henry, or Reggie Bush and hope that a decent option falls to you in the third round -- maybe Thomas Jones. Taking Manning will have the dominoe effect of weakening your RBs, and making it nearly impossible to grab a top flight WR. It all depends what falls to you. A little risk can really pay off. To everyone saying take Addai... put the bong down. He's going 5th in almost all formats... (Take him if he's there, but it's very unlikely.) Joseph Addai might fall to you. Definately take addai if you can. If not him I would probably take Maroney or Rudi Johnson. MAYBE Petyon Manning. Depends on the scoring in the league. With no chance at LT, S. Jax, LJ, or Gore, your choices will be Alexander, Addai, Westbrook, Manning in that order. One of them will be there. Alexander still has the potential and the NFC defenses to put up the most fantasy points. He is a risk for injury, but has only been injuried in one year of his career, so don't forget that before last year, he was always healthy and always productive. Addai has some of the best upside from any running back not named LT. He's in a scoring system that gives it to the running back inside the 20 and they are inside the 20 a lot. He could easily put up the numbers that James did. Westbrook is the offense in Phily. He is all they have on the ground (goal line and yards), and he is there first target in the air. He gets TDs and he gets rushing yards, recieving yards, and receptions (means more in some leagues). He played through injuries and was a top 3 running back last year. He has been slipping to #8, so he's a gift if you get him. Manning is not a bad choice at #8. He is a garenteed star on your team (Maroney, Parker, Bush and Henry aren't garenteed. Every year in fantasy there are running backs that underperform their fantasy value that go in the first round--J. Jones, R. Brown, McGahee are some in the past couple years who prove it). There is plenty of running backs even if you start 3 to grab in the next few rounds. Jones-Drew will be there on the way back and he will out perform guys like Parker. Jones-Drew (5.7 ypc and 16 TDs) will be first round talent in the second round so don't worry about not taking a running back in the first. The one available you think is best..... Peace. If no Sexy RB's are out there, don't push it. Peyton Manning or Carson Palmer would be Great at 8, but if he isn't there don't be affraid of taking the #1 WR. Once they start to fall they fall fast, so you can get a pretty good under the radar RB in round 2 (McGahee, Bush, Benson, ect) 6 years fantasy experiance Laurence Maroney. If this is the last pick in the round go get Reggie Bush |
