Fishing reefs in marathon key florida.? |
Anyone have any tips for catching yellowtail and other reef fish in marathon key florida? Some nice reef GPS numbers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks I don't have any GPS #'s because when I use to visit there we would always hit the "flats" and Fly-fish or cast lures. I DO know that the World Wide Fisherman,(BassPro Shop Owned), has tons of local maps. Your best bet is to stop there and ask around for some cool #'s. ("Most of the time", you don't have to go "too far" to catch (bottom fish) Y-tails, Mangroves, Grouper, Etc. When I use to frequent there every year, if the "flats" bite was "off" we would pull up to some deep water near an "inlet, channel, or bridge" and start chumming. Once you get a good "chum-slick" going with a good "quick-tide", it wasn't long before we were hitting all kinds of species of fish! I suggest you bring a ton of chum,(Dry Salmon catfood, fish meal, & ground up baitfish), because everything is expensive in the Keys including chum! You can "limit-out" on Mangroves & Snapper very easily using this method. Just give your chum-slick time to start working! But don't be surprised if you hit a huge Tarpon or Shark! lol) Good luck! Hope you have a blast! Source(s): 'Ole FLA swampboy from way back. I have not fished there for them but we always used feather jigs or live shrimp with a good chum line as said! |
