I just started using braided line (Fireline crystal 20Lb) and have been getting several backlashes. I tied the braid to 14 lb mono backing and use a Revo S series reel. I also spray my lines/reel with Reel Magic before use. I rarely have any problems with 12-17lb monos and fluorocarbon lines. Ive been using it on Carolina rigs with that probably way 3/4 of an ounce. Are there any other tricks to working with braid?
remember those small diameter braids can cause a mess so reset your spool tension and brake to allow for the braided line!
Make sure your braid is tight on the spool no loose loops or coils at all! It's kind of a trial and error thing. Play with the brake on the side of the reel. Try to match the right line to the reel you are using. Of course practice casting using your thumb to stop the line etc. On occasion a backlash is inevitable but it should a rare occurance. If you are casting Bass baits you might not want a superbraid line. Its a good line for the slop baits though. I use superbraid lines on all of my Muskie reels for casting larger baits.
