I could have seen him going to Ferrari if Kimmi doesn't regularly beat Massa but he has started to save his bacon by winning last weekend.

The only other teams that could afford him would be Honda or Toyota but both have those teams haven't got a car that would inspire him to move.

Maybe BMW as this year the car seems pretty quick, but again it would have to be a long hard decision to make him move.

Maybe it is better the devil you know and stay with Mclaren so he can keep a close eye on Hamilton.
BMW or Ferrari. He could always go back to Renault.

Yes, I think he can't stand Hamilton and he will leave. Hamilton is getting so much benefit from Alonso. I think Alonso feels he is doing all the work, but Hamilton is being favored and getting the results.
It is a definite possibility that he is getting fed up with finishing behind Lewis Hamilton after such a great season last year and I think maybe the team is leaning it's strategy a little over to Lewis to get publicity since he has been doing so well and he has brought such energy to the team and is getting a lot of public attention. But the only place with a car fast enough to compete with Mclaren regularly is Ferrari. And that is a touchy situation because if he takes over Massa's spot he and Raikkonen would not get along due to their need for team dominance and Raikkonen probably won't move because Michael Schumacher basically set his retirement up so as to that Kimi could be the top guy at Ferrari. There also might be a possibility of BMW who is sitting quietly in 3rd in the constructor's championship and they could use a really good driver. Maybe even going back to Renault but I think the reason he left is because he has the chance to be part of a more dominant force in F1.
It's a very interesting situation. It's a real test of character and ability for Fernando. Alonso doesn't take defeat very well, and his recent performances have been that of a man under immense pressure...and cracking under it.
Hamilton is definitely Ron's favourite boy. He has been managing his career for many years. Alonso's manager is Flavio...Ron and Flavio are not the best of friends. If Alonso wants out of the McLaren contract, Flavio will have to go and say "Please" to Ron. I think Ron Dennis would enjoy that. (and Flavio would hate Alonso for it, especially because it was Alonso who hooked up with Ron without telling Flavio about it). Ron Dennis has no reason to release Alonso..he is, after all, a double world champ, and he can drive a bit. Lewis and Fernando are the strongest driver pairing McLaren have had in years. So, if Alonso leaves McLaren before the contract expiry date, that will come at a great cost.
Where will Alonso go to? Back to Flavio's Yellow-Orange mid-field Renault? Or will he just call it quits ("I've achieved everything I wanted in F1") and sulk away? Or will he do a Montoya and go to NASCAR? ("My new challenge...")
Very interesting.....
Alonso is under contract for several years with McLaren; so I doubt we will see him move anytime soon. He does seem a bit frustrated playing second fiddle to Hamilton; but regardless of what ride Alonso is in; I believe his frustrations would continue. Hamilton is on a tear right now and showing no signs of letting up.

Should Alonso leave McLaren I do believe it would be to the BMW Team; they are desperate to get back in the spotlight since the departure of Montoya.

Someone mentioned a possible hop over to NASCAR. Considering only one Open Wheel Driver has had success in NASCAR (Tony Stewart - IRL Champion and 2 time NEXTEL Cup Champion); I strongly doubt Alonso would make that hop. NASCAR is a totally different style of Driving and most of the premier Teams in NASCAR have Drivers who are doing well and under very long contracts.

If Alonso was to go to NASCAR he would find himself in the same boat as Montoya. He would be signed with a mediocre Team and struggle to adopt to a new style of racing with a car that is not up to speed with the premier Teams. I would be like Jeff Gordon starting an F1 career with Red Bull Racing.
I don't know about several years but he has pretty water tight contract at Mclaren till the end of the 2008 season and so has Kimi with Ferrari.
Jumping a contract will not be easy for Alonso and if Mclaren want him out they will also have to pay have to pay a lot of money. So unless there are compelling reasons, don't expect a change in the Mclaren driver line up next year. Obviously every contract will have performance clauses on both sides and they will get triggered in case of any major variation occuring from either side.
Having said that, only BMW and Ferrari are demonstrating any identical pace to the Mclaren's and Heidfeld has been just re signed for 2008 by BMW and Kubica already has a contract.
Can't see Ferrari asking Massa to leave after a very good performance. That does not leave many competitive drive options for Alonso, unless Toyota achieve a big leap forward and willing to pay big bucks. Ralf is almost out of a seat for next year and Trulli is getting old.
