Why are F1 drivers handed a watch at the end of a race? Is it their watch or a gift from a sponser? Contrary to some of the previous answers, Tag Heuer sponsor the McLaren team and BOTH of its drivers, and have done since 1985. After a race when newspapers and websites are showing photographs of the podium celebrations, they want to see their product! Hope this answers your question! Source(s): http://www.mclaren.com/partners/tagheuer... If you mean Lewis Hamilton, it is his own watch, and it's just a little ritual he does. He is handed his watch before going on the podium, like a good luck charm Lewis is sponsored by / promotes a watch brand (forget which one - obviously works!) It will be in his contract to make sure that he is wearing it at certain times. Lewis Hamilton is an "ambassador" for the Tag Heuer Formula One watch. He will put this on ahead of the press conferences as part of his agreement with Tag Heuer. Tag Huer + Agressive marketing = Huge Profit$$$ It's probably TAG Heuer (sp?) for advertising purpose. There's way too much of that kind of stuff for me not only in F1, but life in general. |
