How do you join professional race team.? |
Been looking around on the internet and local racing venues, but most are family and friends. The main sport I've been looking at is desert racing and CORR and no luck. By the way I'm a diesel mechanic and been looking to work on the travel trailers or race trucks. Thanx for the help. A friend of mine did that for a couple of independent NASCAR Busch teams for a while. How he got started was he bought a NASCAR license. Then he went to the races on Friday ( when the Busch and Cup teams were qualifying ) and started asking around the pits who needed help on Saturday. Generally there would be at least one team that needed him. He actually went over the wall a few times as a tire changer. Then he hooked up with a Busch team and they paid his way to the races for a couple of seasons. They were going to move up but lost their sponsor at the last moment and had to disband. I don't know if this would work for CORR, however I think if you hung around the pits and started talking to teams you'll probably find one that needs help. You have to start as an individual first. And then if you are successful as an individual, that is where sponsors (and maybe even team owners) come in. A few years ago, CORR really moved from its Midwest roots to California. The best bet would be to move out there and try to hook on. If I were you, I'd lurk around the paddocks, make friends with the mechanics there, and possibly make yourself useful (in a distinct apprenticeship manner: Don't expect to TOUCH the cars or tools!) Mentorship is an awesome way to get into anything. |
