Is it OK to get a 12 year old a pellet gun? |
We are thinking something moderately powerful. He is as mature as any 12 year old we know. We live near a range that only allows pellet guns and requires adult supervision of minors. Our own property is probably too small for the gun, we only have just over 1 acre. These are what we are thing about, in no particular order. http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-795-... http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-2100... http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-1077... http://www.pyramydair.com/p/crosman-2260... (too much for a kid?) http://www.pyramydair.com/p/benjamin-she... (more than we want to spend, but seems very good quality) http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.... http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.... http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.... http://www.pyramydair.com/p/beeman-ss-10... http://www.pyramydair.com/p/remington-ai... no very dangerus!!! just cuz its a pellet gun dont mean he cant shot someones eye out my boyfriend was 24 was playing with them guns and acidently shot his daughter and she had a hole in her arm.... if a 24 yr old man is dangerus then think of a kid! the younger you teach your kid about gun safety, the better. post at the sports pub http://www.sports-pub.net . A pellet gun can be used on a 10 yard range. I use a 1,000 fps Gamo on a city lot (backyard) at that distance. Just be sure he knows that these things can be dangerous. ~ Have a good backdrop. I used such at age 10. It is ok to get him a pellet gun. Its not very powerful, but describing your area of land it would be the best thing to get him. A .22 caliber rifle is just a little more powerful and a great beginner gun, but you would need more land. So a pellet gun would be good for him. When i was twelve i got a shotgun for my birthday, but my family are a bunch or hunters. I had one when I was 12.... I don't think it's too young...of course I was supervised too.. Make sure you put a gun lock on it like you would any gun, and keep the key on you, because your kid will be tempted to use it when your not around. I did. They are dangerous, but what isn't dangerous anymore. I think it is OK as long as he always has adult supervision and a gun safety course would be good also. Don't let him take it out to show his friends, that is when they want to show out or the friends want to try it and someone gets hurt. My 8 year old has two guns, but the only time I get them out of the safe is if me or his dad are with him. He does not have access to it whenever he wants to. This keeps him from wanting to sneak it out at night when I am asleep. Get him one to shoot the neighbors dog when it goes to crap in your yard |
