Can a blind man climb mount everest? |
one day, i check up a website called 'who's climb everest? then an blind old man name eric can climb mount everest.he said he climb the mount just like a stairs at home.. i do not believe it.. sarah, Yes, a blind person can climb Everest. I saw the story on a news program a few weeks ago - stills, motion pictures of the guy making the climb. He DID have a guide who stayed with him the entire time. He can but he needs a guide along the journey. I saw a program once about a handicapped who climbed mount everest! Yes, the guy's name is Erik Weihenmayer, 2001. http://www.peakware.com/peaks.html?pk=80... Yes there is a man who did it. He had a guide to help him, but he really did it. Some people are really determined. I find people with 'disabilities' are often the determined ones. They want to show the world that they can achieve great things, even though they have a disadvantage under the rest of us, and that their problem will not stop them. I say they've done a great job proving it- I know people with setbacks that have done plenty of things I don't have the guts to do- like climb Mount Everest. Mind over matter, I guess. Ive never heard of that either but its possible i guess. Id imagine that at certain points when climbing everest you cant actually see much anyway if anything at all, but its still quite an impressive feat. Although ive heard that the main problem people have when climbing everest is the altitude sickness. Some people sucome to it really bad and however fit you are if you cant shake it you will never get up the mountain, as its like having a really bad dose of the flu. He did amazingly well to overcome that and his disability. |
