Will stiff shafts on my irons give me a lower trajectory and more distance? |
I have regular flex shafts on my irons. I seem to get a much higher trajectory compared to other people using the same club, thus, causing me to lose distance. I also need to hit up to 2 clubs longer to get the same distance as other people (example - I need to use a 5 iron for the same shot somebody else is using their 7 iron for). It depends on your swing speed. If you have a fast swing speed then you would probably want the stiffer flex. But if you have a slow swing speed, then less flex (probabably graphite) would help you increase distance. Are you using steel or graphite? Base it off your swing speed and experience. Steel if you are a better player or swing harder (because the flex will make you less accurate, not for distance. Graphite would go further, because of this flex) Are you hitting high because you scoop the ball up or because you hit down on it and it rises on its own? If the latter, good, don't change it. What clubs are you using? Some clubs are lofted differently. One pitching wedge might be 48 degrees, another 46. How far do you hit it, how old are you, experience, handicap? Need more detail to answer this question. It's never general, but always specific to the golfer. If the Kick Point on your shafts are low, then the ball flight will be high.If the Kick Point is high, then the ball will have a much lower flight. It also depends on swing speed, and the weight of your clubs. |
