In golf tournaments, what disqualifies golfers from completing rounds? There are a lot of things that can DQ a golfer, check a USGA rule book. Too many clubs, illegal or illegally modified clubs are probably the most common. You are also allotted a limited number of balls to complete a round, I forget the number, see Tin Cup. If you lose a dozen, technically you can't sign your card. There are plenty of other rules as well, see the book. Usually when they have too many golf clubs. Lots of things. Check the rules. There are very few things that will immediately disqualify a golfer. Most of the other examples people have already stated will result in a two-stroke penalty. Some of the examples (eg. using the same brand of ball for the entire round) are only in effect on the professional tour. A lot of disqualifications occur only at the end of the round. Some examples of immediate disqualification: 1. If you and your fellow-competitor agree to ignore a rule, you are both disqualified. 2. If you don't hole out, you'll be disqualified when you tee off at the next hole. 3. If you use a club, ball or tee that doesn't conform to the rules 4. If you play too slow, you can be disqualified after the 3rd offense. 5. If you play a shot after the horn sounds for a weather delay. 6. If you use an artificial device to help you make a shot. This includes Range Finders, GPS, etc. 7. In a lot of situations, if you do something wrong, you have a chance to correct it and take a penalty. If you don't correct it, then you will be disqualified. (example: hitting someone else's ball instead of your own.) If you lose too many balls and cannot complete your round. That would disqualify you One thing a lot of people don't think about, but is obvious - In official rounds, the ball has to be hit in the hole. If a player picks up their ball and then begins the next hole without ever hitting the ball into the hole on the previous hole, the player is disqualified. Signing an incorrect score card. |
