What's "hosted" mean in golf? |
Do you know what it means, for instance, when it says "AT&T National... hosted by Tiger Woods." I know the golf media was making a huge deal about it -- as only Palmer and Nicholas have hosted tournaments... But what exactly does it mean? What's the difference between the new one Tiger's hosting and the Palmer Classic? (My answer cut and pasted from the same question asked recently is below ...) It's multi-faceted. His involvement includes but is not limited to: 路 Cooperating with the PGA Tour on a date, site and sponsor. 路 Coordinating his charity with the PGA Tour and the sponsor. 路 Direct input on field size and course set-up. (The PGA Tour's exempt status hierarchy determine who is invited after the field size is determined although Tiger has input on who receives sponsor's invitations. To wit, college pal, Notah Begay III, is in the field. It's just NB3's second event of 2007.) 路 Direct influence on how the tournament evolves in future years. Woods is the third golfer to host an event as an active player. Arnold Palmer (@ Bay Hill) and Jack Nicklaus (Memorial @ Muirfield Village) are the others. I asked this question yesterday...haha. Great minds think alike. The host refills your drinks on the 19th hole ! (at least a GOOD one will) |
