Does anyone know what exactly is illegal about the Nike Sumo 2 Driver?

Does anyone know what exactly is illegal about the Nike Sumo 2 Driver?
I own one of these with the Callaway FT-i . The FT-i seems to be ok.
I kept hearing about the Nike Sumo 2 being illegal. Anyone know exactly why it is" illegal"?
What regulations did it break?
Thanks in advance.

slightly too much 'trampoline' in the face...the faces of the drivers have to have a cor or coefficient of restitution (trampoline or bounce off the face) that meets a certain spec...those that dont are considered illegal, in the case of the Nike drivers they were barely off, only enough to get you possibly 5 yards extra with the same swing... the old callaway ERC drivers had a high cor number then were non conforming (illegal) when the legal cor was not made higher the following season as was expected, other major clubmakers were about to follow suit, making the maximum allowable cor on club faces to give players the maximum distance allowable, but the usga never changed that spec...shortly afterwards clubmakers came up with imaginative ways to get more distance out of clubs by using different materials (composite head tops and now longer shapes to move the center of gravity deep into the heads giving more lift/launch and greater moi (moment of inertia) which is the clubs resistance to twisting at impact...resulting in more accurate strikes delivering maximum launch conditions even when hit slightly off center... Source(s): lots of research on the subject...
Check this Picture to see if yours is non - conforming.

The USGA does not list why they have found a club to be non - conforming.
I've heard that the non-conforming club hits the ball too far (Face material too hard/springy?) Compared to normal clubs in USGA tests.

The conforming club probably has some kind of insert, or lack thereof, to make it closer to normal high cc drivers.

And as stated above, the conforming Sumo 2 has the small circle between SQ and the nike swoosh on the bottom of club.
