Wedges?????? |
what wedges do you think i should get?? right now i have a 52 degree and a 56 but im thinking about replacing my 56 with a 58. keeping your wedges in 4* increments would probably be good, adding a 60* wedge will give you that next increment from your sand wedge and also give you a good club to use hopping traps or getting the ball out of traps with high faces and short hop runners out of the fringe or rough next to fast or short sided greens...Ive changed irons 4 times in the last five years and 5 different sets of woods (drivers incl.) but I kept two sets of wedges the whole time vokey 200s (which i gave to my nephew) and my set of cleveland 588 gunmetals 45*51*57*64* is still in my bag, the first set of wedges I ever bought...tossed out the long irons for hybrids so I could carry a couple of extra wedges and kept it like that ever since...if youre going to buy one more club make it the lob wedge in 4* increments from your sand that way you still hit the same looking club and can measure out your distances...that is not to say that you cant close down or open up a face on another wedge but why do that if you dont have to? (it is good practice to hit all your clubs different distances and heights, so that wind shots, carry distances to greens, knockdown shots, various distance sand shots, and runners will all be available to you when you need them)...good luck! i personally perfer the 56 because i dont see a need in a 58 or 60 degree. if you can do the lop wegdge shots like lefty, more power to you. but if you cant pull of those nifty shots around the green, the 56 is more pracitical. i generaly go with one 60 degree sand wedge and a reg 9 iron. for chip shots within30 ft of green i go with a 7 iron and choke up on the shaft. i really do not see much use in cluttering your bag with alot of defferent degree wedges. Listen, if you are going to get new wedges i would prefer you to get a Cleveland CG12 56 degree. The thing with the CG 12 is that it will play a little bit higher than normal. I wouldn't prefer the CG 11 because it is a cavity back, unless you prefer them. The CG 10 is a classic club that always work and last a long time. A couple of years ago the PGA stated that Cleveland made the best clubs. I have a 48, 56, 60 degree Cleveland wedges and i love them. If you don't want to pay for a Cleveland get a titleist Vokey 52 and a 58. For the worst thing that can happen is opening up your club face a little to make a higher loft. Or putting it in more to the back of the stance to make a 56 degree loft. I would not change. Most clubs in the golf set have a 4 degree difference as you have with your wedges; if you are going for a more lofted wedge then continue with the 52 and 56 and add a 60 degree lob wedge. See Dave Pelze麓s book on the short game, 4 wedge system. i like Cheese wedges |
