How Do You Get Lift On Your Slapshot?

I am having problems getting height on my slapshot. Any tips?

When taking a shot in hockey, it's similar to golf in that the follow through controls the height of the shot. Hockey sticks, like golf clubs, have a loft in the blade (or head in golf terms). The loft is the degree of backward tilt in the blade of the stick and is what allows you to "get under" the puck. An upward follow through will finish. Ending your swing with your stick at about stomach or chest level.

In general, though, taking low slapshots from a point allows for rebounds which is useful for your forwards since they will be in position to finish the play. It's hard to take a slapshot without everyone seeing it coming, it's a very telegraphed shot. Wrist shots are better used up close and it's easier to get height on them.

Check source for tips on the slap shot and other shots in hockey. The second one has video and a diagram for foot position and other stuff. Good Luck. Source(s): http://www.whockey.com/tip/shooting/#sla...

I just curve my stick back some.
what works for me
good answer, rotate the stick back more in your hand so that it the blade is tilted back more from the goal when you contact the puck.
close your eyes and hope for the best....:o) Sorry....just being silly.

I think you might want to give both of your wrists a slight twist right as your stick meets the puck.

You could also ask your coach or an old veteran player....
Wow, that is a tough question to answer without actually showing you or you watching someone who can do a slapshot.

As for me, I simply watched others execute the shot and then analyze where their skates are in relation to the waist, shoulders, head and arms. One thing tho is that you don't have to wind up all the way to get a good shot off, even a half wind up with your stick becoming parallel with the surface will give you a decent slapshot.

Check the video below. This is basically how it goes, but skating into the shot will give you more power.
