I've always been a Leaf fan and could never really figure out why a club with their fan base and earning potential couldn't win a cup. I think Damien Cox helps give the whole situation some perspective. It almost seems like some strange greek tragedy. I knew Stavro and Ballard were dorks but it seems there hasn't been a single Leaf owner who was in it for the love of the game since Old Conn Smythe died. Maybe Balsillie can buy this club and fix it. What do you think?

Wow. As a Philadelphia sports fan in general, I have had plenty to gripe about over the years. Honestly, given what has taken place according to that article blows me away. How can any owner invest in a team without having the sole interest of winning a championship? Since I have been alive, Philly has had 3 championships and approximately a dozen finals visits. Toronto, who's only championship coincidentally came against the Phillies, have had zero but have had several teams come very close. I really don't see what I have to gripe about after reading this. |
