When will the NHL use BaseBall's All-Star game policy and award the winner Home Ice advantage? |
The NHL needs to get serious if they want to compete with the other NA Major Pro Sports. First, they need the team in Vegas. If you have ever been to Vegas than you will know what I'm talkin about. People say the city cannot support it but they have over half a million people, plus tens of thousands CONSTANT TOURISTS, who, because they come with their families alot, will SPEND MONEY, like they would do at ANY OTHER SUCCESSFUL Vegas show. Hockey wouldnt be any different the Cirque Du Soleil or anything else that is a Vegas mainstay. Check out the Thomas and Mack Center when you get a chance as it is 3 blocks from the strip and close to the aiport and it can seat over 19000 for hockey. Hockey players are usually good boys and you can gamble in any city in the U.S.A so thats a poor arguement. New York? Los Angeles? C'mon, cash as no home. Next, Bettman needs to get his head straight and fix his debacle of an All-Star game. GET PEOPLE INVOLVED and make the game WORTH WATCHING First of all, the most important step is to realize that hockey will never compete w/ the more popular American sports. It MAY get to #3, but it will always be behind 2 of the following: NBA, MLB, and NFL (in no particular order). 2nd, even if I DO agree w/ you that they should institute the 鈥渁ll-star game winner as the SCF home team鈥?(which I don鈥檛 agree), that still wouldn鈥檛 make the NHL the most popular sport. It would take a whole lot more than that. All it would really do is make the all-star game POSSIBLY more competitive. And since hockey players have class (most of them, at least the all-stars do), they鈥檒l be playing their hearts out anyway. Finally, this makes no sense. How would you like to be a higher seed from a conference (#1, #2, or #3), and you play a low seed from the other conference (#8, #7, or #6), and because the lower seeded conference won the all-star game, you now lost home ice advantage. That鈥檚 crap. Now look, I admire your zeal for the game. That鈥檚 great. Let鈥檚 just not mis-diagnose the situation. As far as Vegas, ok. I鈥檓 open-minded. But I think we should explore putting teams back into Canadian cities first. We really need to invest into the roots of the game. Not Puerta Vallarta Mexico. lol I agree. Since when did Florida need two teams? Personally, I really don't see any problems with how the NHL chooses where to have an All-Star game. The NHL is doing their own thing in that department, and the same goes for the MLB. Each business has their own system and it works well for both. As for having a team in Vegas, you have a lot of good points, but I see them differently. Because there's tons of other stuff to do and the fact that a lot of americans (who doesn't live on the north-eastern seaboard) doesn't even know what hockey is, those tourists will flock to other things like Cirque, Copperfield, Celine Dion, casinos, getting Doyle Brunson's autograph (personally, I would much rather get Brunson's autograph than check out a Vegas hockey game), things like that. Dude NO ONE WANTS a "meaningful" All Star game. That is why Baseball is the only sport STUPID enough to do it. That is why they didn't do it until Selig BLEW IT and called the game a Tie. Bettman is easily the worst commissioner I've ever seen. I love hockey, it's a great product. why can't I ever see it? theres no tv deal. thats first and foremost. get people to talk about hockey, its that simple. get more teams in Canada [but not by expansion, take the Panthers, move them to Hamilton], move the Predators to Halifax, and move other teams in non hockey fanbases to Canada. It'll be better Bettman just might be clueless enough to do that. The the NBA went to Vegas it was a disaster, an absolute and total and monumental disaster. The last thing wee need is an expansions team, much less an expansion team in the desert. We already tried having a team in a desert, and that didn't work so well. The All Star game is not supposed to mean anything. It is for fun. Changing the home ice format for the Cup finals to the way the MLB does it is one of the dumbest ideas possible. The regular season should determine this because that is what it is there for. Home ice for the greatest trophy on Earth should not come down to players that are probably not even on the Cup teams. This ranks up there with the stupid North America vs. the World format. This idea also reeks of Bettman. Using the All-Star game to compete with other leagues is also ridiculous. This is one Exhibition game compared to many other more exciting meaningful games. If we have to change the NHL to get more fans, then I don't think we really want these fans. We want real fans not regular sports fans with attention spans that last about 10 seconds. |
