New Captain of Sabres? |
For this up coming season, everyone that hasn't been asleep for the past week knows the Sabres have no captain. Who do you think would be the best choice for captain? The most popular picks have been Teppo Numminen because of seniority, and Brian Campbell (who I really could not see as our new captain). And no, Andrew Peters, Adam Mair, Paul Gaustad, and Ryan Miller will not be, even though they are great people that will just not happen. Me personally would say that Jochen Hecht would be a great captain, although no one else seems to see it that way. So who would you pick? (Pick someone already on the team, there is no chance of anyone being added that is good enough to be a captain.) Numminen, though my top choice based on his experience alone, is very laid back, not the best trait for a leadership role. So is Hecht. Max still doesn't speak english well enough. Connolly's too injury prone. Miller can't because he's a goaltender. Peters and Mair are good choices as far as leadership goes, but they will never be captain because they are hampered by playing time, (the same reason why Rob Ray was never captain, even though he was the unofficial captain.) We know Vanek is an outstanding player, but we don't know if he is a leader. My guess C-Numminen A-Gaustad, Who will be the captain after Teppo retires A-Mair or Campbell But you never know. The Sabres may have someone completely different in mind. Very few people saw Michael Peca and Stu Barnes as the top choices at the time. tim connolly if he can stay healthy I gotta stick with Campbell. Also, for those wanting to say Afinogenov- 0 chance. Captains are not healthy scratches in the play-offs. Numminen seems like the only logical answer. I say it will either be Teppo or Max. My guess would be Teppo with the "C", Hecht with an "A", and either Vanek or Campbell with the other "A". I know Vanek is young, but he has more then proved himself as a quaity player and leader. I don't think Max will wear and "A" if he doesn't get the "C". Just my guesses. vanik or connoly It's Numminen. Campbell will be an alternate and Mair might get the other 'A' by default. I don't see Hecht as a realistic option. The Sabres are in special need of solid leadership and a stabilizing force after the summer they've had. Personalities aside, a 20 year veteran defenseman is much better suited to handling the responsibility. |
