How far can you ride a horse at full gallop before you should slow down and walk him awhile.....?
Also, how far can you ride, walk, run a horse in a day? All this assumes generally flat land with small hills once in awhile.
300 metres and a good horse will travel day after day distances of 60 kilometers.
I'm a jockey by trade, after a 800 metre gallop,we usually walk them back to the stables, just to let them get there breath back, and cool down,so they don't tire up.
Depends on the type of horse, some are bred for distance, look up some information on Endurance Racing. It is a distance race. They are usually quite long.
Any time you gallop you need to walk the horse and cool it down until his pulse and respiration returns to normal and he "cools" down to the touch. The Tevis ride is an endurance ride done in one day over some of the toughest and stepest terrain in the United States...it is 50 miles of absolute treachery and horse's finish it well within a 24 hour time frame. Amazing but true - look it up online.
It depands on the horse. Riding everyday with your horse, you must be able to ride for 3 hours before resting. Sometime only riding for 2 hours to better. I used to ride my horses for 2 hours before Sunday's. Sunday's was show day. But look at the horses in the Olympic games they run over 100 miles or more the the three event.
it depends on the breed.....like Quarter Horses can run for a quarter mile...or Arabians who can lope for hours.. but mostly it depends on the fitness of your horse and on the training you do on it.
