Top 10 horse races in the World? |
As far as most prestigious and sought after internationally recognised etc The Arc de Triomphe The Melbourne Cup The Breeders' Cup Classic The Dubai World Cup The Dubai Sheema Classic The Hong Kong Vase The Japan Cup The King George & Queen Elizabeth Diomond The Breeder's Cup Turf The Cox Plate are the most prestigious. The 3yo classics - especially the Epsom & Kentucky Derbies are probably more sought after. Kentucky Derby BC Classic Dubai World Cup Grand National Arc de Triomphe Japan Cup Melbourne Cup Epsom Derby 2000 Guineas Hong Kong Cup 1. Kentucky Derby 2. Dubai World Cup 3. Breeder's Cup Classic, Turf, etc. 4. Epsom Derby 5. Preakness/Belmont Stakes 6. The Melbourne Cup 7. The Travers Stakes 8. The Santa Anita Handicap 9. The Whitney Handicap 10. Pimlico Special In no particular order: Dubai World Cup (UAE) Epsom Derby (GB) Kentucky Derby (USA) Japan Cup (JPN) Melbourne Cup (AUS) King George & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes (GB) Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (FR) Breeders' Cup Classic (USA) Breeders' Cup Turf (USA) Champion Stakes (GB) Look up any one of these races and the list of winners reads like a "who's who" of racing. This depends on whether you are referring to Flat racing or National Hunt racing. Flat racing: Triple Crowns. Although some of the races are not as prestigious as others the triple crowns are worth more at breeding than any other groups of races. 1)English Triple Crown 2000 Guineas 1 mile Derby 1 mile 4 furlongs St. Leger 1 mile 6 furlongs 2)American Triple Crown Kentucky Derby 1 mile 2 furlongs Preakness Stakes 1 mile 2 furlongs Belmont Stakes 1 mile 4 furlongs The American Triple Crown carries more prize money but the English Triple Crown is more prestigious and worth more at stud due to the fact that it is more difficult for a horse to win between 1 mile and 1 mile 6 furlongs as a 3 year old than it is to win between 1 mile 2 furlongs and 1 mile 4 furlongs. Plus the fact that it includes the Derby, where the course is known around the world as notoriously difficult with hills and divits and bends. Which is why it is the most sought after Flat Race. Both Triple Crowns are notoriously difficult to win and that is why they rate as the most prestigious groups of flat races in the world. Top 10 singular flat races: 1) English Derby (UK) 2) Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe (FRA) 3) Breeder's Cup Classic (USA) 4) Dubai World Cup (UAE) 5) Kentucky Derby (USA) 6) 2000 Guineas (UK) 7) Japan Cup (JAP) 8) Breeder's Cup Mile (USA) 9) Preakness Stakes (USA) 10) Belmont Stakes (USA) National Hunt racing: 1) Grand National (UK) 2) Cheltenham Gold Cup (UK) 3) Champion Hurdle (UK) 4) Queen Mother Champion Chase (UK) 5) AIG Champion Hurdle (IRE) 6) Welsh National (UK) 7) Scottish National (UK) 8) Irish National (Ire) 9) World Hurdle (UK) 10) Arkle Chase (UK) Oooh, that's a fun question! My top ten: Kentucky Derby Melbourne Cup Arc de Triomphe Epsom Derby Breeder's Cup Classic Breeder's Cup Turf Dubai World Cup Grand National Steeplechase at Aintree Cheltenham Gold Cup Santa Anita Handicap (sentimental local favorite race) I would also add to these races, which are for Thoroughbreds, the Hambletonian, which is for trotters. These are all awesome races. |
