Waiting period for shotguns in california ????
A friend and I are having a debate, is there a waiting period for shotgun sales in California as there is with handgun sales ??
you have to wait for exactly 240 hours, if you register your shotgun today at 12:00pm, you can pick it up ten days later on or after 12:00. most gun stores will tell you to just come back in 11 days though, to avoid this confusion about the time, and to make sure everything gets delivered after the 10x24hr period. All firearms legally sold in California have a waiting period of 10 days... Unless you are an antiques dealer purchasing/selling firearms classified as antiques.
Here is one of my sources (California Attorney General):
What is the process for purchasing a firearm in California?
All firearms purchases and transfers, including private party transactions and sales at gun shows, must be made through a licensed dealer under the Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) process. California imposes a 10-day waiting period before a firearm can be released to a buyer or transferee. A person must be at least 18 years of age to purchase a rifle or shotgun. To buy a handgun, a person must be at least 21 years of age, and either 1) possess an HSC plus successfully complete a safety demonstration with the handgun being purchased or 2) qualify for an HSC exemption.
