Can a .17 HMR round be interchangeable with a .22 WMR round? |
Just bought a Marlin 925M and was wondering if they are interchangeable. Actually, the correct answer is still no, but for different reasons than above. A 17hmr is a necked down 22 magnum casing. The Bullet size, and thusly the barrel bore are smaller on the 17hmr, it won't even feed a 22mag into the chamber. The base of the casings are identical on both rounds. nope.casing is smaller on a .17, it may get jammed in the .22 gun. and since the .22 casing is just a bit bigger then the .17, it will get stuck in the .17 It is wise only to use the ammo designed for your weapon. The 17 HMR is a necked down version of the 22 WMR, the two are not interchangeable. ***Insert from link*** .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire, commonly known as the .17 HMR, is a rimfire rifle cartridge descended from the 22 Magnum. It was developed by necking down the .22 Magnum case to take a .17 caliber (4.5 mm) bullet. Commonly loaded with a 17 grain (1.1 g) bullet, it can deliver muzzle velocities in excess of 2550 ft/s (775 m/s). 17 HMR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.17_hmr... 22 WMR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.22_wmr... D58 Hunting with Rifle, Pistol, Muzzle loader and Bow for over 3 decades. Reloading Rifle, Pistol and shotgun for over 3 decades. NO! Simple and to the point..... It is absolutely unsafe to fire a 22 WRM round in a 17 HMR rifle. It's also a really bad idea to do the converse, though you might get away with rattling one down the barrel. Even if nothing bad happens, it will still not have broad-side-of-a-barn accuracy. Perhaps you should have considered the Sako switch-barrel rimfire, or maybe you can trade up. no, not inner changable. always use the correct ammo for the gun, don't try to innerchange anything, you will only hurt yourself and/ or your gun. |
