Can you legally buy an AR-15 in Canada? |
I'm aware that i can't legally own a clip with more than 5 rounds so i'd just have to get around that somehow, but can i actually buy one here. If anyone knows any websites that would be a great help. Thanks in advance! Check out the following. Some of these manufactures actually make AR type rifles for sale in places like liberal California, which has restrictions on magazine capacity etc.. http://www.olyarms.com http://www.tapco.com/ http://www.bushmaster.com/ http://www.dpmsinc.com/ http://www.stagarms.com/ http://www.armalite.com/ http://www.rockriverarms.com/ I cannot promise you will find exactly what you are looking for but I know in my recent shopping for an AR-15, I saw a few "target" models with 5 round magzines, also a few models which are legal for sale in liberal Caifornia which does not allow detachable "hi-cap" mags, so the manufactures built a magazine into the receiver like the M-1 Garands. If you look you will find it! They even have lefty rifles out there so left shooters don't have to get hot brass in their faces anymore. Don't let someone talk you out of buying what you want because they wouldn't buy one, or they don't see a practical use (for them) to own one. I just ordered a Rock River Arms AR-15A2 yesterday. I can't hunt with it (because I don't hunt!) but I sure can go shoot it! Hell, call a few of these companies and tell them about what you need, they may be more than willing to help you out. They all make good products. Good luck. You can borrow mine once I get it. I have over thirty, 30 round magazines from when I was in the Marines. Just accumulated them over the years, now it's time to get a rifle to match them! Yes you can, they're on the restricted list so you'd need your restricted license. Go to progun.ca and there are some retailers though AR's are often tough to find and very expensive. You can't "get around that" with the 5 round mag rule. You could if you wanted but just be aware that if you were caught, owning an illegally modified magazine is no different in the law than owning an illegal weapon. You'd have every gun you own seized, go to court, and chances are never be able to own a gun again. There are some semi-auto rifles that use the same magazine as bolt action models and in that case you can use the loophole, but there aren't any bolt action rifles that use AR magazines. Most AR magazines are full sized ones that are welded so you can only fit 5 in. Of course if you totally set your mind to it, you'd be able to find one or modify a 30/5 one to hold 30 again, but for what use? If you take it to the range with that and someone sees you and reports it, the consequences above apply. I'd never buy one myself. The very fact that they're restricted just makes them a massive pain ie. you can only shoot them at very specific ranges, can't use for hunting, need an ATT to transport it anywhere, etc. If you have tons of money and want a good assault type rifle, buy a Swiss Arms rifle, you can see them at theshootingedge. They're expensive, like $3000, but they're just a semi-auto version of the SIG 551/552 assault rifles and are non-restricted in the full sized versions. |
