How do you get a concealed weapons permit?

Is the process differnent from state to state? I live in Missouri. What all do you have to go through to get a concealed weapons permit?

I live in missouri and also am a sheriff's deputy in a local county south of st.louis. The procedure is as follows, you have to apply at your local police station for a license to carry a concealed weapon, but only if your county allows it. Also after you have paid the appriopraite license fee you must attend a class thats is usually five or six nights long. This class certifies you to legally carry your one specific weapon and that weapon only. You must pass the written test in the class as well as go to a shooting range and pass firing test also. after you have completed the class and the registration, a license will be sent to you via mail.

good luck and hope this helps
I think w/ the accompany of an adult you can go down to the police station, and they'll show you the ropes, and if seem like a worthy individual, and you're not liable to do anything stupid you get one.
In Nevada, I had to take a police-approved training course.
Most of the bigger sporting shops (Gander Mt., Sportsman's Warehouse) have a cork/peg board neer the entrance with business cards tacked into them with the information you seek or, give them places a call. Also most indoor gun ranges hold classes, check there web sites, witch could have a link on dates, cost, etc.

Yes, the process is different from state to state (which is one reason why some states don't recognize (accept) the permits issued by another state).

In my state, Pennsylvania, for example, if you haven't killed anyone, beat your wife, or been committed to a mental institution, they will give you a CC permit (Pennsylvania is a "shall issue" state, meaning the only reason they'll deny you is, basically, as I said, you're nuts).

To get a permit in Pennsylvania, all you have to do is go down to the county courthouse and submit an application. Then, depending on what county you live in, you either walk out with your permit (Westmoreland County, for example) in 15 minutes, or wait up to 45 days while the Sheriff's Office dicks around with your application (the county I live in, Allegheny). The one exception to this is Philadelphia, where the city police handle firearms permits. Also, I should mention, there is no firearms training necessary to get a permit here.

I write all of this to contrast it with your state, Missouri. The information for Missouri's requirements can be found here:

Good luck in getting your permit, and stay safe.
In Arizona it was $119 and an 8 hour class it is good for 5 years then a 2 hour class to renew it. The state police does the background check on you and ten days later you get it.
