Ok BEAR HUNTERS I need some help!!!? |
My husband found a recipe for bear bait balls on the internet a while back. We printed it off,but lost it and now we can't find it on the internet again. The ball is a hard candy thing that you hang at your bear bait sites and when it rains or is humid, it slowly drips scent, attracting the bears. So, when your baits happen to go dry, there is still something there to bring the bears in, until you can restock. I know they can be bought in like bacon, berry, and other flavors. But he want s to try and make one with the recipe. First person who can answer this I will give the best answer to. Thanks a ton. Is this what you're looking for? http://www.bearscents.com/scentball.html... I don't have an exact recipe, but basically, any gob of sugar will work for bear bait. We've used mixtures of coarse ground hard candy, cakes/pies, apples and molasses, let bake/harden in the sun for a day or two in a coffee can, and you have your bait ball. The water from rain will 'melt' some of the hard candy and it will still have its sugary attraction. Make sure you encage it well, like suet for the birds, or it'll be torn apart by the first bear that finds it. Hope that was some help. I'd suggest NOT using a bacon-ball, because you may have a few more critters than you expected. Large cats and wolves won't touch candy (at least they never did ours) but they will with meat. Simple. Raw meat. Or try old bread and popcorn covered in used peanut oil.
